Chocolate is a big part of my life, and it was one of the most important things for me when I want vegan. I was worried I wouldn’t be able to eat gooey caramel-filled chocolates, or smooth velvety praline anymore. Fear not! I am here to present you with my unofficial list of the best vegan chocolate that’s out there, which is part of my Veganuary series. I’m so excited to share this, so let’s get going!

This was the first vegan chocolate I ever tried when I went vegan nearly five years ago now, and it is still my absolute favourite. Vego bars are chunky chocolate and hazelnut goodness for a fairly steep price as far as chocolate goes, but 100% worth it. It’s like nutella in a chocolate bar. Speaking of nutella, they also do a Vego chocolate spread, and little bite-size praline chocolates called Vegolino which are a m a z i n g. If you only try one new chocolate on this list, make it a Vego.

NOMO is an amazing all-rounder and accessible chocolate bar, and the name stands for “No Missing Out”. It’s a pretty good price and easily found in your average supermarket like Tesco. Their Fruit & Nut chocolate bar is SO good, and they’ve recently brought out a caramel one that I’ve definitely been eating too often recently hahah. My Christmas calendar this year was NOMO-themed, and for Christmas I also had their Caramel filled chocolate ‘Drops’ which was like bite-sized caramel heaven.

I was waiting years, genuinely, for Galaxy to bring out a vegan chocolate. A classic Galaxy bar was one of my favourite chocolate bars before going vegan, and I’d kind of given up hope, so was blindsided when it was actually announced. Their vegan chocolate is expensive, but it’s good. Especially the orange one, which is reminiscent of a Terry’s Chocolate Orange but with the creaminess of a galaxy. Also pretty easy to find as far as vegan chocolate goes, where most decent sized supermarkets should stock it.

This is not actually one I have tried yet, but Lindt have just launched a vegan range in the UK! At first glance it does not seem to be a veganised range of their classics (it’s a shame – I used to love their Lindor balls) but I’m sure it’s delicious all the same. I was actually quite surprised Lindt brought out any vegan products, especially as even most of their dark chocolate contains milk. If you’ve tried the new vegan Lindt, let me know in the comments, because I’m curious to know how good it is!

Bournville is a classic dark chocolate bar that isn’t made specifically for vegans, but is dairy-free, and was of my favourites for years before going vegan. It’s also my go-to when baking because you can buy a big bar for a pretty decent price. It also has other vegan-friendly products that are great, like their giant chocolate buttons, and also Bournville chocolate fingers are SO good – but be warned they are very more-ish!

I discovered Doisy & Dam at Easter of 2020 (I ate a lot of chocolate in 2020 to get through the year), and fell in love with their vegan equivalent of Mini Eggs. Colourful, fun, tasty, cruelty-free. They also do their vegan equivalent of smarties which are great, and maltesers although I’m not as keen on them. I highly recommend the mini eggs though.
And my newest discovery, during December, were their truffles. The texture and consistency is just like a Lindt Lindor Ball and they are AMAZING. I went and bought a second pack after trying them because I wanted to make sure I had enough to see me through Christmas haha.

These are like After Eights, but in my opinion, nicer. They’re not too minty and so it’s easy to eat a few of them in one go! They’re also the perfect size for an after-dinner mini dessert. Even if you’re not a huge mint fan I’d give these a go, because they’re very enjoyable. They’re also Fairtrade, palm oil free, and come in plastic-free packaging, which is a huge win.

That’s it for now, and enough chocolate to last a while! Are there any amazing vegan-friendly chocolates that I’ve missed out?
I’ll be back very soon with more Veganuary posts, and in the meantime, have you read my post on: How To Go Vegan: The Ultimate Guide?

I’m obsessed with Bournville chocolate – bars, buttons, fingers! I had a period where I thought I was lactose intolerant so went for free from and vegan chocolate. I haven’t tried Doisy & Dam yet but when I come across it, I’ll be trying them out.
Dani
CarolineHi Caroline, yes I LOVE bournville! I went through a stage of eating so many of their chocolate fingers haha. Definitely do check out Doisy & Dam, they have a great range now 🙂
